NSW:One dead, one trapped in Hume accident

SYDNEY, Aug 17 AAP - One person is dead and another is trapped after an accident which
has closed the Hume Highway in southern NSW.

Emergency services were called to the Hume Highway at Woomargama, just south of Holbrook,
about 7.05am (AEST) on Wednesday, after two cars were involved in an accident.

One person was dead, another was trapped and two others had suspected spinal and head
injuries, a NSW Ambulance spokeswoman told AAP.

"The trapped person is currently in the process of being extracted," she said.

All those involved were still at the scene.

The Highway is expected to remain closed in both directions for several hours to allow
for a police investigation and vehicle recovery.

Southbound traffic is being diverted at Holbrook on the Culcairn-Holbrook Road to Culcairn,
then to the Olympic Highway.

Northbound traffic is being diverted at Table Top onto the Olympic Highway north of
Albury, then to Culcairn to use the Culcairn-Holbrook Road.
