NSW: ICAC releases development reforms=2
Local Government Minister Harry Woods said the government was supportive of the ICACrecommendations.
He said the report was a timely reminder that corruption cannot be tolerated in local government.
"If the Rockdale saga taught us anything it showed the need for transparency when councillorsmake their decisions on developments," he said.
Mr Woods said the government had already responded to the ICAC inquiry into RockdaleCouncil by introducing tough anti-corruption measures earlier this year.
Opposition Leader John Brogden said he supported recommendations from the ICAC inquiry, which sought to clean up councils.
"There is ongoing concern across the community in some areas about operations of localcouncils and decisions made by local councils," he said.
"Because of the unique position that councillors have in the determination of developmentapplications and other development approvals, any improved scrutiny of councillors wouldbe a positive step forward," he told reporters.
Opposition local government spokesman Duncan Gay said most councillors in NSW wouldwelcome the recommendations because most of them were trying to do the right thing.
