NSW: Carr didn't care about Liverpool job losses: Gazal
An upper house inquiry has heard NSW premier BOB CARR told his Planning Minister he
didn't care about jobs lost by the closure of the Orange Grove factory outlet.
Orange Grove owner NABIL GAZAL's told the upper house inquiry that Fairfield MP JOE
TRIPODI had told him about the comment after speaking with the minister in charge DIANE
BEAMER.
Mr GAZAL says Mr TRIPODI told him the premier had intervened on behalf of Westfield
boss FRANK LOWY, who didn't want the competition for his nearby shopping centre.
He's told Mr CARR was warned of hundreds of potential job losses but didn't care because
Liverpool was a safe Labor seat.
Mr CARR's office has rejected Mr GAZAL's allegations as total lies and say he is trying
to intimidate the government into retrospectively rezoning his property.
